I need fervent prayers for the next month or so. This is potentially for a very HAPPY thing.

As many know, I've been living in my "canvas palace" for going on a year, this time around (we did it before, 6 years ago, for about 9 months). It's a tent. it's a nice tent, and we're mostly comfortable. (understand, it's a 12x12x8 ft tent that has better insulation than even arctic-grade yurts. it's like a little house. we're not suffering in a little 2 man dome jobby) but it's not sustainable for long term for two reasons: namely, heat and bears. It is well insulated for a tent, but it still doesn't hold the heat as nicely as a hard shell would. Therefore, my heating bills this last winter have been astronomical.

Plus, I live in perhaps the second beariest area in the beariest state of the US. We have grizzlies all over the place, as well as a small but scrappy black bear population. We coexist pretty darn well, here, and I know my stuff. I have not yet had a curious bear, but it's always on my mind. A hard shell with a real door that can keep a bear out would be AWFULLY NICE.

Also, in the not-necessary-but-oh-please category, my son and I really need separate sleeping spaces, I need a lot more bookshelf space, and in the winter we have to keep the window flaps closed so it's kind of dark and dreary in here.

enter two things - the high school shop class has built a very small "house" (essentially, it's just the box) that they are about to sell by sealed bid for the cost of materials as a minimum bid. this means all up to code, well insulated, and zero labor costs.

second thing - when by aunt died she left me some money. I didn't know she had any money. surprise! and the amount she left should just cover the cost of the mini house plus getting it moved and building a foundation. assuming no one outbids me.

We originally heard that we were the only ones interested. woohoo! but I found out today that two other people (at least) are preparing bids.

With a sealed bid, you get the minimum amount and then submit a bid that is hopefully higher than the other bids. you don't know what they are.

If I don't get the house, the money I have could pay to begin a small house of my own, but it would probably be a year or two to be able to move in. I can live with that. but I really want to get this place! it's such a perfect solution! and I would have a fully paid-for home.

They haven't opened the bid yet, but they will in the next few weeks. If everyone could say a little prayer for me to be the highest bidder - light candles, cross appendages, dance naked around a fire, whatever your "thing" is, I would so appreciate it!

I could use prayers that some of this general anxiety I'm suffering would go away.

Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers. [Votive]

[Votive] for Comet's little house. May the other bids be small and inadequate.

I would appreciate prayers, please, about a tricky work situation. I have been refused facility time to attend our union's national conference. To meet the union's proportionality rules, most of our delegates must be women - unfortunately, I'm the only female activist in our branch who's fully trained in her role and willing to attend. (This is something we're working to address for the future.)

My boss is citing an important project as the reason why I can't go - the same project that he told me last week was low priority and could easily be worked around other jobs. The message HR is being given by my managers is not the same one I've been getting.

Advice from our regional office is to raise a formal grievance, but my branch secretary and I don't want to do that, as it would sour our working relationship. I could take annual leave, but it sets a precedent for future delegates and my manager is potentially breaking our facilities agreement by refusing.

Please pray that this will be resolved amicably - or at least with as little bloodshed as possible. Thank you.

Reading and praying. [Votive]

We surfed the waves this week, 'til last period today with tired kids and tired teacher. I have to get the able kids moved into a more appropriate set. Managing a larger class means I don't hve time to sit down with my wee souls and coach them on their reading skills. The able kids are aghast and the silly comments made by some of my more immature padawans, eg. "We're supposed to read on our own, hur hur (as if anyone would do that!)"

Please pray that this all happens relatively smoothly. [Votive]

Please pray in the meantime for the able kids not to lose hope, and for my wee souls to make progress. [Votive]

I do read this thread but don't usually post on it.

Prayers for PeteC and Miss M [Votive]

Mad Cat - it sounds as if you've got a combination class of what we used to call the "weak but willing" with the behaviour issues mixed in. It might be worth trying to find out what the behaviour is masking. You may be looking at a lot of undiagnosed dyslexia in there for example - verbally bright, but poor on paper - and challenging behaviour is a good way to cover up, plus putting down anyone who looks as if they may be weaker than you to bolster their battered self-esteem. But 24 is too big a class to deal with like that.

[Votive] prayers too for those with battered self-esteem, recognised and unrecognised learning difficulties

That comet gets her house

I seem to have sinusitis. This is a minor thing, compared to pretty much everything else here, but I'm in the middle of deadline alley with a couple of exams coming up. I'd appreciate prayers to get over this quickly so I can actually do some work! (also, this is a sign I am very run down and need a proper break - prayers I find one would be good too)
